Isreal in Eygpt by George Friederich Handel

The song Israel in Egypt, is a biblical oratorio by the composer G. F. Handel. Most scholars believe the libretto was prepared by Charles Jennens, who also compiled the biblical texts for Handel’s Messiah. It is composed entirely of selected passages from the Old Testament, mainly from Exodus and the Psalm.

Very few people have ever heard G. F. Handel ‘s sacred oratorio Israel in Egypt in anything like the form in which he first composed it. The story of the work’s genesis is interesting: as Handel originally penned it in 1738, Israel in Egypt was a work in three acts, the first of which was an adaptation of the Funeral Anthem,  composed the previous year on the death of his former pupil Queen Caroline.
